Keepsake (2003, 4’34”, S4C)
Keepsake explores themes of memory and loss, around the flooding of the Elan Valley, mid-Wales, in 1904. The valley was flooded to create reservoirs for Birmingham’s water supply. Many buildings were destroyed and over a hundred people were displaced. Keepsake uses original footage, archive maps, engravings, and domestic objects; the waters of the reservoirs are ‘drained’ to reveal what was lost.

Lines from the poem Reservoirs by RS Thomas, spoken by Sian Phillips.

Music by Jóhann Jóhannsson
